The Daily Telegraph reports that research has shown that the cost of heating a home has risen by an average of 63% or £227 a year over the past five years.
The typical annual heating bill was £360 in 2007, but this will soar to an average of £587 this winter according to uSwitch. The price comparison site said recent price increases announced by energy suppliers would add around £40 to average household heating bills.
The research also found that last winter, three quarters of households went without heating at some stage in an effort to minimise their costs. The Daily Mail (Sean Poulter) says millions of householders are planning to ration their heating this winter after bills soared to 'shocking' new levels.
